I have been doing a great deal of thinking about the "branding" idea for building ships and what not. I was thinking instead of doing such small changes that instead ccp should allow players to modify an entire ship. This means slots, ship bonuses, armor, grid, cpu, just about everything. This would truely allow for real custimization.
This is the way I propose they do it. Instead of researching the actaul ship bpo more, release "mod bpos". Meaning I have say an "armor mod bpo" that gives me an increase to my ships armor. So when you go to install the actaul bpo you get the option of installing a certain number of mod bpos.
For example: I want to build a moa. The Moa bpo builds nothing but the hull. Meaning that it comes with standard cpu and grid. Then I give it a certain number of lo slots or high slots or whatever.(not done with another bpo but with the the moa bpo itself) This means if I wanted, I could build a moa with one or two lo slots but with all mid slots. The way this is balanced is that I get a certain number of slots for each ship and choose how I want to allocate them. Restrictions could even be put on the number of slots you choose per level. Meaning I cant divert all my lo slots to guns, but say I could divert one or two of them.
Once this is done, if I want anything extra like ship bonus, or more grid or whatever, I have to have an actaul bpo to give me that. So each ship in general gets two bonus. So I get the option of installing whatever bonus bpos I want, and say can make a moa thats really good with sniping per say (ie. 10% to med hybrid guns optimal range). Of course this would have to be balanced to give only RACIAL bonuses. Meaning, I cant have a moa that gets a bonus to using lasers, (though I would love to have something like that).
Lastly, I get the option of installing hull mods. Say I have the option to impove one or two aspects of the ship. So I want a cpu bonus so I get a cpu increasing bpo. (Could also be restricted by not being able to double up on atribs if you were allowed more than one mod) Although doubling up would be fun as well.
This system could even be applied to ammo, or actaul mods themselves (ie. nanofibers, or hybrid guns) Meaning I could choose to increase the range, tracking, or whatever on a gun and sell it. (Assuming of course I had the needed mod bpos to do this)
This of course would require a massive rewite, but in the end be something amazing to play with! It would truely make building a PROFESSION (seeing as how ccp seems to be going this anyway)I think if something like this were to be implemented the market should get a massive rewrite as well. Selling modded things on escrow is a bad idea because its time consuming to search through it, along with a host of other problems. (Though I havent worked how to rewrite the market yet)
Next, I would also like for ccp to do away with the way they give out t2 bpos. Instead of using RP to determine it they can join a lottery for the bpo. They get one ticket for say a million dollars. Anyone with the skills for the bpo can join that lottery. Everyone is notified of the winner, and the lottery starts again when ccp choose.
RP is instead use to inhance bpos further. Say I want a shield mod that uses less cpu, I use that certain agent and he uses the RP i have in stock to make it better. That why all that rp that people have isnt wasted, and EVERYONE gets a fair chance a t2 bpo.
